Piano Moving FAQ: Your Questions Answered

Planning a piano move in Ottawa? Our professional piano movers answer the questions we hear most, from piano moving costs and stairs to grand pianos, storage and disposal.

How much does it cost to move a piano in Ottawa?

The cost of moving a piano in Ottawa depends on the type and height of the piano, the distance between the pickup and drop-off locations, and the number of indoor and outdoor steps, turns and landings. Every move gets a free, upfront quote, so you know the price before moving day. Request your free piano moving quote.

How do you move a piano?

First we plan how to manoeuvre the piano through both locations, including any staircases. We wrap every piano in moving blankets, plastic wrap and packing tape, and add protective corner pads. Then we choose the right dolly or piano board for the piano's size and the stairs involved, and follow our planned route for a safe move every time.

How many movers does it take to move a piano?

Most piano moves need two movers, depending on the indoor staircases, landings, staircase width and size of the piano. More difficult moves, such as grand pianos or long, narrow staircases, need three to four movers.

How do you move a piano up and down stairs?

After securely wrapping your piano, we lay a runner mat on the staircase to protect it. With the piano strapped to a dolly designed for the job, we carefully move it up or down the stairs, manoeuvring around any landings or turns for a safe move every time.

Do you move grand and baby grand pianos?

Yes. Our grand piano movers take off the legs and pedal lyre, place the piano on its side on a padded piano board, and reassemble it at your new home.

Are your piano moves insured?

Yes. Every piano move is covered by transit insurance, for your peace of mind.

How far in advance should I book my piano move?

We recommend booking one to two weeks ahead, especially at the end of the month and in summer, which are the busiest times. Call us for shorter notice and we'll do our best to fit you in.

What areas do your piano movers serve?

We move pianos across Ottawa, Kanata, Stittsville, Nepean, Barrhaven, Orléans, Gloucester, Manotick and Gatineau, as well as long-distance moves across Ontario and Quebec.

Should I tune my piano after a move?

Yes. Moving and changes in temperature and humidity can affect tuning, so we recommend letting your piano settle in its new home for two to three weeks before having it tuned.

Do you offer piano storage?

Yes, we offer secure, climate-controlled piano storage in Ottawa for short or long periods, with pickup and delivery included.

How do I get rid of an old piano?

Our piano disposal service removes old or unwanted pianos from your home. We donate or recycle them wherever possible instead of sending them to landfill.

We have safe and secure, climate-controlled storage for your piano, for as long as you need it.
